Cuba is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. As the US embargo tightens and long-standing economic hardships deepen, an increasing number of people are struggling to access even the most basic necessities, such as daily food and essential medical care. As the country runs out of fuel, transportation is scarce and unaffordable for most, uncollected rubbish is piling up in the streets, and most houses and public infrastructure (including hospitals) are experiencing long power blackouts. The most vulnerable — the elderly, the sick, and children — are paying the highest price.
I am supporting two organisations working directly on the ground to respond to this emergency: Hombre Nuevo Tierra Nueva, a Spanish NGO that has been active for more than 20 years across several Cuban cities (see their webpage), and the Centro Memorial Martin Luther King Jr., a Cuban ecumenical organisation that has supported underserved neighbourhoods in Havana for over 30 years as part of a nationwide solidarity network (see their call for international solidarity).
These organisations deliver concrete aid every day. They distribute food and medicine, prepare meals for the elderly and dependent individuals, assist people with serious medical conditions, and provide educational support to children. As the crisis worsens, they are working urgently to expand their programmes to reach even more people in need.
If you’d like to support these organisations too, please contact me directly (I haven’t been able to create a fundraising page due to the economic restrictions imposed on Cuba). Your support can help ensure that families have food on the table, that elderly people receive life-saving medications, and that children are not deprived of their basic rights. If you are able to contribute, you will be directly supporting life-sustaining assistance for those who need it most.
If you are travelling to Cuba, please also consider contacting these organisations to carry urgently needed medicines and medical supplies — items that are nearly impossible to find in the country and must be brought from abroad.

Other ways to help: Nuestra America Convoy to Cuba
A global movement is being mobilised to bring critical humanitarian aid to Cuba for homes, hospitals, schools, and families in need, committed to breaking the US embargo. The Nuestra America Convoy will travel by air, land, and sea, and will converge in Havana on 21st March 2026. There are multiple ways to support the mission, by making a donation, collecting aid in your community, and/or joining a delegation to travel to Cuba as part of the convoy. You can find more information on the webpage.
